We all know that social media is immensely popular nowadays. But did you know psychology plays a huge role in why social media is off the charts popular with nearly all ages? Social media is also changing just like we are, and it’s changing the way we relate to one another, communicate, share and yes, even form our own personal identity.

Smartphones, Apps and Technology

Social media may be all about smartphones, apps and technology, but did you know Psychology plays a major role in the human behavior factors of how and why people interact with their devices and apps? Welcome to the world of Psychology!

“The likes, comments and posts we share on social media can often seem inconsequential, but they matter. They tap into some of the very elements that make us human, our addictions, desires, anxieties and joys.” - Courtney Seiter, Buffer

Take a look at how our culture has immersed itself in these six social media channels. It’s amazing that without the foreknowledge of psychology and human behavior, social networks probably wouldn’t be so popular.

  • Facebook has reached 1.44 billion active users monthly
  • There are about 2.2 billion Google Plus profiles online
  • Twitter has 302 million monthly active users
  • Instagram has grown to 300 million monthly active users
  • LinkedIn has over 332 million registered members
