Transfer Students: Getting Involved on a New Campus

Posted by ENC Student Life on Jan 19, 2017 7:15:00 AM

Congrats! You just transferred to a new school. You're probably excited and a bit nervous. You've got to find new friends, figure out where classes are, and of course, find the best local spots for a midnight snack. Whether you need tips for integrating into the ENC student community or suggestions for Boston hot spots, we've got you covered. Use this post as a guideline to an easy transition and stay tuned for a future post on the best late night snacks.

Focus on the present.
Your friends want to hear about where you've been, but don't be the person that only ever talks about their old school. Focus on where you are now and make some new memories.

Make an effort to get to know your roommate. Whether you came in knowing your roommate or you got randomly placed with someone, you've got a great opportunity to make a few friend. If sharing a small space is proving difficult, use these tips for sharing a confined space.

Use the new campus as an opportunity to branch out. You've got a great opportunity for a fresh start on a brand new campus. Use this chance to get in with a good group of friends and really focus on school. If you did drama at your old school, get involved with drama here but also get involved with sign language club or the swim club. Try new things!

Talk to as many new people as you can. It would be easy to stay in your room and do nothing after class, but you have to get out there and talk to people. Get out and make new friends! Just meet one person, and they can introduce you to their friends, who will introduce you to their friends, so on and so on. You'll never get connected if you don't take the initiative and just say "Hi."

Find a club or organization you like and get involved. Be adventurous and try something new! ENC has a large list of clubs and organizations. From the Animal Caretakers team who takes care of snakes, lizards, and creepy crawlies, JUMP drama club, and a step team, we've got something for everyone. To get a full list stop by the Student Government Office down the hall by Hebrews.

We come out with a new blog post every Monday and Thursday. Check back for helpful hints, updates on campus events and acitivities, and blogs written by your fellow students. You can even start writing for us! Email [email protected] for more information.
